Smalls ruled ineligible

(Tulsa-AP) -- The Tulsa football team has lost a senior receiver to academic ineligibility Terrance Smalls transferred to Tulsa from the University of Illinois.

Head coach Keith Burns says such circumstances are an unfortunate part of college football.

Small was being used as a running back and third-down receiver.

Burns says he will help Smalls transfer, probably to an N-A-I-A school where he will be eligible to play.

Burns says three freshman will be given a shot at filling in for Smalls.
