HONOLULU (AP) — Utah quarterback Darnell Arceneaux was free on bail Monday after being arrested for investigation of abuse of a household member.
Police arrested Arceneaux, a Hawaii native, early Sunday when they responded to reports of problems at a Waikiki nightclub.
In addition to the abuse charge, police also arrested Arceneaux for an outstanding warrant.
Utah athletic department spokeswoman Liz Abel said coach Ron McBride is on vacation and unavailable for comment.
However, she said it was the understanding of Utah officials that a woman involved in the nightclub disturbance doesn't plan to press charges. Abel said the outstanding warrant stemmed from a traffic violation four years ago.
Arceneaux was scheduled to return to Salt Lake City on Monday. Abel said Arceneaux hopes to handle the traffic ticket from Utah, rather than returning to Hawaii.
He is scheduled to appear July 24 in District Court in Hawaii.
Arceneaux, 22, played in nine games last year for Utah, including a relief appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl in which he rallied the Utes to victory. He was 5-2 as a starter, but missed some games with assorted injuries.
