Scenic Rivers Commission executive Ed Fite says it is too early to say people with plans that involve the illinois river should change their plans.

Fite says the river crested earlier today, but had fallen only slightly and it is not expected to go below flood stage until Friday evening.

He says people who want to float and boat on the Illinois should call the commission at 918/456-3251 between 8 & 5 seven days a week to get condition reports.

If they get a recording, they should leave a name and number and the call will be answered.

Fite says people can also check with their canoe operators for information.

He says boaters who plan to take to the river anyway should wear life jackets and leave the alcohol on shore.

Fite says the river is very unsettled and moving faster than normal.
