(Miami, Oklahoma-AP) -- Trucks hauling lead-contaminated dirt from Ottawa County yards are running about half full this week.

That's to comply with lower weight limits instituted by county commissioners upset about county road damage.

Commissioners lowered the weight limit from 27 tons to 12 tons with a limit of ten tons for roads in the Cardin township. The commissioners voted to maintain the lower limits until the county is paid for damages done to its roads during work on the Tar Creek Superfund cleanup.

But after telephone negotiations with Environmental Protection Agency officials, Commissioner Joe Crawford says the 27-ton weight limit signs will be put back up on Monday.
