(Republic, Mo.) - Nearly 139 years after the guns fell silent along Wilson's Creek, the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) and the North/South Alliance are joining forces to cosponsor a reenactment of the largest Civil War battle fought in Missouri. The event is scheduled for June 16-18, 2000 near the actual battlefield. Proceeds from the reenactment will benefit the Wilson's Creek National Battlefield library expansion and CWPT's ongoing battlefield preservation efforts.

The reenactment promises to be the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River. The three-day event is expected to attract nearly 10,000 reenactors and more than 20,000 spectators. Among the activities scheduled are re-creations of Brigadier General Franz Siegel's doomed Union assault on the Confederate rear and fighting at Dug Springs and Bloody Hill (Oak Hills). In addition, spectators will have the opportunity to participate in Civil War-era dance instruction, witness a period baseball game, and attend a memorial service for the men who donned the Blue and Gray.

For more information, visit the official reenactment website at http://www.dabear.tzo.com/wilsonscreek/. Tickets prior to the event are $19.90 per person, and can be purchased at Price Cutter Food Markets and Citizens National Bank. Tickets at the gate are $29.00 per person. The ticket price includes parking and attendance for all three days. Children ages 8 and younger are free.
