(Tulsa-AP) -- Rookie teachers could begin coming with a warranty.
The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education are expected to approve a teacher improvement plan that guarantees first year teachers can demonstrate acumen in 15 competency areas.
Regents spokesman Kurt Snodgrass says if they can't pass the test, the teachers could be recalled for further course work at the expense of the graduating college.
Oklahoma Education Association president Carolyn Crowder says the group supports the proposal in concept.
Crowder says teacher warranties should help teacher education programs better prepare novice teachers for their first days in the classroom.
The warranty program will affect college students entering education programs at Oklahoma's public colleges in fall 2000.
