(Norman-AP) -- A Norman man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before his trial was to begin for the 1997 deaths of his mother and half-sister.

The state is seeking the death penalty against 21-year-old David Ray Alexander Junior. The defense wants either a life sentence or life without parole, which are the other two options for first-degree murder.

The case reconvenes tomorrow morning.

Alexander told District Judge William Hetherington yesterday that he was responsible for the deaths of 37-year-old Jeanne L. Boone and 12-year-old Keeley Nicole Boone in their home.

Doctor Michael Jepsen is a forensic psychologist called by the defense. Jepsen says Alexander suffered from a schizophrenic disorder that when untreated would cause him to suffer from delusions, hallucinations and distorted thinking.
