NEW YORK (AP) — Sidney Peterson, a surrealist filmmaker of the 1940s and '50s, died April 24. He was 94.
In 1975, the Whitney Museum of American Art showed four of his experimental films, including ``The Potted Psalm'' (1946) and ``The Lead Shoes'' (1949).
Peterson made his first films with help from students while he was teaching at the California School of Fine Arts.
He worked at the movie studios and in New York at the Museum of Modern Art's video department to finance his early ventures.
Peterson also wrote two books, ``A Fly in the Pigment'' (1962) and ``The Dark of the Screen'' (1980).
