(Austin-AP) -- Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan was discharged Friday from an Austin hospital where he had double bypass heart surgery last weekend.
The 53-year-old former Texas Ranger and ex-Houston Astro lives in Alvin.
Ryan went to a Round Rock hospital on Sunday after experiencing shortness of breath, tingling in his arms, and chest pains.
He was moved to the Heart Hospital of Austin hospital later Sunday for surgery. Tests revealed a near-total blockage in a main artery in Ryan's heart.
Ryan is expected to make a full recovery.
Ryan released the following statement, which also refers to his wife:
"Ruth and I would like to acknowledge the outpouring of support and well-wishes from friends and fans after my recent heart surgery. Your prayers and concerns are deeply appreciated.
"My special thanks to the medical teams at the Round Rock Medical Center and the Heart Hospital of Austin. With their help and with the help of my family, I expect to make a complete recovery."
