(Chelmsford, Massachusetts-AP) -- The driving force behind the surge in Mercury Computer's stock price might have been a fleet of sports cars.
The firm's chief executive, Jay Bertelli, had offered his top executives a new Porsche Boxster if the company's stock price doubled by the end of 1999.
Instead, it tripled.
So this week, Bertelli delivered 20 new silver Porsche Boxsters. Two more of the 48-thousand-dollar cars will be loaned for two weeks at a time to top performers among the company's 450 other employees.
Mercury has made computers for defense, intelligence and medical systems for 17 years.
