(Littleton, Colorado-AP) -- Colorado Governor Bill Owens says he thinks the school massacre at Columbine will be with us forever just as the Oklahoma City bombing will be.
Owens made the comment this morning as he stood in Clement Park near Columbine High School.
A year ago today, two students shot and killed 12 of their schoolmates and a teacher before killing themselves.
The anniversary follows by one day the fifth anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people.
Owens says the massacre left an indelible mark on Colorado. Bu the expects it to be easier for residents to deal with the effects of it after today's anniversary.
Todd Branson of the Denver suburb of Thornton also visited the park. He says thinking about Oklahoma City brings remorse for the people there, but he says that wasn't in his backyard. He says Columbine was in his backyard and he had to be there.
