(Edmond-AP) -- For the state's teaching graduates, the writing is on out-of-state walls.

A teacher recruiting fair at the University of Central Oklahoma had more booths from out-of-state districts than inside the state.

Other states were pitching higher salaries, better insurance plans and better retirement plans. Some of the states that sent recruiters included Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, California and Texas.

And out-of-state recruiters offered even more money for in-demand teaching specialties like math, science and special education.

Bill Naftzger works with personnel for the Tulsa Public Schools. Naftzger says the school is doing a good job of preparing teachers. He says the challenge now is how to keep them.
