(Little Rock, Arkansas-AP) -- A former Oklahoma City woman is scheduled to be the first female on record executed in Arkansas.

Christina Marie Riggs asked in January to drop all her appeals, and she's scheduled to die May 2nd.

Riggs is accused of suffocating her 5-year-old son and her 2-year-old daughter in 1997, allegedly because they hindered the kind of life she wanted to lead.

Including Riggs, Arkansas juries have sentenced only four women to death in the last 100 years.

Statistics show that nationally 42 women were executed during the 1900s, compared to more than 7,800 men.
