(Cleveland-AP) -- Syracuse battled past Samford 79-to-65 in a Midwest Regional first-round matchup in Cleveland. Preston Shumpert and Jason Hart each scored 17 points for the Orangemen.
Etan Thomas added 16 points and four blocks. Reed Rawlings scored 28 for Samford. The Bulldogs stayed close throughout most of the game, drawing within three at 49-to-46 with just over 13 minutes remaining. Bu tSyracuse scored 17 of the next 25 points to put the game away. The Orangemen will play Kentucky in the second round on Saturday.
