(Tulsa-AP) -- High-tech systems are letting victims of domestic violence get some sleep in Tulsa County. A relatively new type of technology called Juris Monitor blares an alarm and alerts the police if a person wearing an electronic monitor comes near.

This lets the victim take evasive action. And if the monitored-person enters the house, every sound is put on tape as evidence.

JurisMonitor is one of several high-tech ways that Tulsa County's Pre-Trial Release Program can keep tabs on offenders without putting them in jail.

Steve Rines is the program's research coordinator. Rines says it give the victim a feeling of confidence. The agency's role is expanding as Tulsa County gears up for community sentencing programs that will keep many offenders out of prison and put them in rehabilitation programs.
