(Ames, Iowa-AP) -- Iowa State's Marcus Fizer is The Associated Press Big 12 player of the year. Fizer, who led the Cyclones to their first conference championship in 55 years, was the unanimous choice by a media panel.
The honor comes a day after Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy was named the Big 12's coach of the year. Iowa State's Jamaal Tinsley, whose play at point guard also was critical in the Cyclones' title run, is the league's newcomer of the year.
Texas A-and-M's Bernard King is freshman of the year. Fizer, the Big 12 scoring champ as a sophomore last season, leads the league again at nearly 23 points a game.
