SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) -- A candidate for Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District allegedly took a metal pipe to an intruder. Mark Detro, owner of the Sallisaw Inn, was arrested Friday after police found a bloodied man wandering outside the motel. The man told authorities that Detro had beaten him in one of the rooms. "Instead of calling us, he took a stick to the other guy," police Chief Gary Philpott said. "He kind of took the law into his own hands."

Detro, 32, was arrested on a complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, Philpott said. He was released on bail later that day. A Sequoyah County District Attorney's Office employee said Wednesday that charges had not been filed against Detro and that the office had not received any paperwork from the Police Department. Detro is a Republican candidate for the 2nd District seat being vacated by Rep. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. The Federal Election Commission's Web site revealed recent financial-activity reports from six 2nd District candidates but nothing from Detro.
