LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- Razorback Stadium is getting a new name. The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees on Tuesday formally approved a proposal to rename the facility as Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
The stadium is being renovated and expanded and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation donated $20 million toward the effort, enough to cover about a third of the cost.
The donation was announced last December and Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles said at the time that the stadium would re-named in Reynolds' honor.
Work on the stadium expansion has begun and its capacity is being expanded from about 50,000 to 70,000 in time for the 2000 season. The expansion will include dozens of luxury boxes. Eventually, the stadium will be expanded to accommodate 80,000 people. Reynolds was the founder of Donrey Media company, and created the philanthropic foundation in 1954 to provide grants to nonprofit organizations. The Las Vegas-based foundation's capital grants program focuses on the three states that Reynolds had the most interest in -- Arkansas, Oklahoma and Nevada.
