(Dallas-AP) -- The Big 12 today is standing by the suspension of a referee over his handling of the end of Texas A-and-M's 88-to-86 victory over Texas Tech. Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg today said league officials tried to get all the facts in Saturday's incident. Weiberg says there would have been a bigger credibility problem if the Big 12 equivocated or took no action. So basketball referee Charles Range won't work a game for the rest of the season or the postseason. A-and-M won at Tech on a basket at the buzzer. The basket was first ruled good, then officials said after watching a T-V replay that it came after the buzzer. The call was reversed after A-and-M coach Melvin Watkins refused to allow his team to return to the court to play overtime. Big 12 officials say Range failed to follow appropriate protocol in the postgame situation.
