(Syracuse, New York-AP) -- Chalk one up for real Christmas trees.

Researchers at New York's College of Environmental Science found that well-cared for Christmas trees do not pose a fire hazard.

Christmas tree growers are using the study to try to debunk warnings about trees catching fire during the holidays. Researchers say Christmas trees kept in water are difficult to ignite because of the moisture content. They say dried out trees increase the risk
of a fire.

Over half of the Christmas trees sold in the U-S are artificial.
