A former Denver police officer has been ordered to go to trial on three felony counts stemming from an Internet sting.

Joseph Albert Ellsworth was bound over for trial at the end of
his preliminary hearing yesterday. He's being held on counts of
exhibiting and/or distributing obscene or indecent language,
attempted lewd proposals to a child and attempted lewd molestation.

Ellsworth allegedly sent computer messages to a Tulsa police
detective who was posing online as a 14-year-old girl. The Golden,
Colorado resident has been jailed since his arrest on July 7.

Ellsworth allegedly used the screen name "Captain Kirk."
Testimony indicated that correspondence occurred in an America
Online chat room over a six-week period.
