McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Petitions seeking the recall of two city council members were turned in Tuesday to the city clerk, who will have a month to verify the signatures.
The recall targets Michael Dawkins and Louis Smitherman. Supporters said they had more than enough signatures to force a recall election.
Dawkins and Smitherman were on the city council at a time when contracts and budgets with leave buyback provisions for former City Manager Randy Green were approved.
Green was paid $579,500 for unused leave over a five-year period. The FBI is investigating the case.
