OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Health Department attorneys say an Oklahoma City lawyer may be investigated for an alleged cover up involving nursing home management.
Accusations were made yesterday at a department hearing where an administrative law judge was asked to disqualify Carl Hughes from representing Tulsa accountant Patrick -G- Walters before the agency.
Hughes assisted Medical Management Group Incorporated in hiring Walters to perform a final accounting of money spent on the temporary management of Rosewood Manor in Norman and Cyril Nursing Home.
Hughes says the allegations are insane.
Walters allegedly failed to disclose EW Jiles' hidden financial involvement in the temporary management. Jiles was sentenced to prison for a criminal conspiracy in the administration of nursing homes.
Health Department attorney Charles Broadway alleges Jiles improperly paid Hughes about $100,000 in attorney fees from federal Medicaid and Medicare funds derived from nursing home operations.
