American Airlines and its employees have set a goal to earn $500-million a year at the Tulsa maintenance base.

American's management and union announced the plan during meetings for all of their 7,000 employees. The company plans to make money by doing more work for other airlines.

Employees have agreed to help cut waste in exchange for guarantees their jobs won't be cut. The transport workers union is on board with the new drive for efficiency.

The Tulsa base handles 80-percent of the maintenance for American Airlines.
