The city of Tulsa wants voters to approve $155-million worth of street improvements. The projects include major work on some of Tulsa's busiest roads.

News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says next month's city of Tulsa bond issue focuses on street improvements.

At 33rd and Sheridan, a lot of drivers are looking forward to seeing something improve. Tulsa driver Henry Rendol: "They need to, they're in bad shape, they could use some repair." The Sheridan project is a $1.3-million rebuild from 31st to the Broken Arrow Expressway. The job - that won't start for at least a year - would build up the curbs, replace the median and correct the longstanding drainage problems that undermine the road bed.

This section of Sheridan has been on the city's priority list for years, but it finally made it on the bond issue list because it's in such poor shape. It's been repaired so many times, there's nothing left to do but completely rebuild it. All of the projects in the bond issue are what city engineering considers the most critical needs.

The intersection of Mingo and Admiral was picked because of long running drainage issues and the amount of traffic. The rebuild of Yale from 31st to 36th will help traffic flow from the BA down to 41st Street. That section of road hasn't been rebuilt in more than 20 years.

It's just one of the projects that many drivers think is long overdue. Tulsa driver Candace Churchwell: "Bad roads, everywhere you go, bad roads."

Two-thirds of the money in the bond issue is for better streets. The projects that made the list are the busiest streets in the worst shape - something the city hopes voters are ready to change.
