The Broken Arrow Police Department is using the Internet to help residents track criminals in their neighborhoods.
A new alert system is using e-mail to inform people of criminal activity. It only takes an e-mail address to sign up. From time to time, the E-alert system will send you e-mails about things like a meth-lab bust, or a newly registered sex offender, or a crime pattern.
The e-mails will be grouped by zip code or sometimes by neighborhood. Broken Arrow Police crime analyst: Tim Hirsch: "For example, if we're having an auto burglary problem in one of the housing additions, then we'll mention that housing addition in the subject line so the citizen's in the area will pay more attention to that specific alert."
Broken Arrow Police say they will not share your e-mail with anyone else. Your name is optional.
To sign up, go to the Broken Arrow Police Department's web site.
