The Tulsa County Election Board held a tiebreaker drawing Wednesday morning in a race for the Bixby School board.
The election from last week was tied at 658 votes for each of two candidates. News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says state law dictates what happens in a tied race, and it's not a recount of the ballots.
The race is decided by drawing names. The election board, meeting at 500 North Denver, put both names on a piece of paper in a box, and a Tulsa County Sheriff's deputy drew the name of the winner. It's Stacy Shipman[pictured right], who was the incumbent in the race. Brian Lamb got the same number of votes, but lost the election.
Even though the official count showed a tie, the election board reports that a couple of ballots that were cast weren't counted because of an error by a precinct worker.
Because the candidates didn't contest the results of the election - and didn't ask for a recount - the election board decided the election by drawing the names.
