A new study by "The Oklahoman" shows taxpayers are paying for nearly 700 civilian workers to drive state-owned vehicles home at night.
That doesn't include police officers or higher education officials.
Agency administrators say they aren't perks, but necessary use of tax money. State auditor and inspector Jeff McMahan disagrees. McMahon calls it an ineffective use of taxpayer dollars and the result of a culture that's developed over many years.
A bill has been introduced in the state Senate to address the issue.
