COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) _ Famed tenor Placido Domingo will sing a portion of Richard Wagner's ``Ring of the Nibelungen'' in April, part of a one-day appearance at Copenhagen's new opera house, the Royal Theater announced.
The April 7 performance is a prelude to the new stage's spring production of Wagner's four-opera cycle of gods, humans and dwarfs that draws on themes from Nordic and German mythology.
``It is a great pleasure for me to come to Copenhagen's new opera house,'' Domingo said in a statement last week released by the Royal Theater, which oversees the opera.
The Spanish singer will sing the part of Siegmund, the doomed hero who longs for love amid incest and adultery.
The new $439 million opera house, built on Copenhagen's waterfront, was inaugurated Jan. 15 by Queen Margrethe and dozens of politicians and notables.
