A domestic dispute spills out in a road, and a Henryetta doctor driving by ends up shooting the husband, but only after the husband chased him, almost to the front door of the police department.

It all happened in Henryetta. News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says a domestic dispute near Henryetta ended with a shooting in front of city hall.

It started with a doctor driving to work, who encountered a couple fighting in the road. Dr Wesley Parkhurst[pictured right] says he picked up the woman, Candy Britt, to get her to the police. He says as they were driving, the husband rammed them several times.

The man confronted the doctor in front of city hall, just yards from the police station. Dr Wesley Parkhurst: "and he started coming towards me and It looked like this guy was threatening and problematic and I said don't come any closer or I'll shoot you and he came closer so I shot him in the lower leg, that didn't seem to do much and he kept coming shot I shot him in the abdomen and that got his attention."

The man who was shot is 37 year old Gary Britt. He's in a hospital with 2 bullet wounds but is expected to recover.

As for Dr Parkhurst, authorities say it appears to be a clear case of self defense.

Henryetta Police chief Audie Cole says several charges could be filed against Britt, including domestic abuse. Cole said the district attorney will decide what charges should be filed. In 1995, two women filed protective orders against Britt, according to Tulsa County court records.
