OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma City store owner accused of shooting and killing an unarmed thief was charged Tuesday with manslaughter.
Trung Duong is accused of killing Anthony Rowe on December 16th after Rowe grabbed several cartons of cigarettes and ran from the southwest Oklahoma City store. Police say Duong fired three times at Rowe, hitting him once in the back as Rowe ran into the parking lot where he collapsed and died.
Duong's store had been robbed three times in the year before the latest incident, including once when Duong was attacked, hit in the head and forced to strip.
District Attorney Wes Lane says while he has no sympathy for thieves, the law doesn't allow the killing of unarmed shoplifters.
