RINGWOOD, Okla. (AP) _ A 44-year-old Burlington man is killed after the car he was riding in swerved to avoid a coyote and overturned after skidding off a Major County highway.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Phillip Wayne Otis was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head injuries.

The patrol says Otis was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Frank Allan Phillips. The car was northbound on State Highway 58 at about 9 o'clock last night when Phillips swerved to avoid hitting a coyote, rolled one time and then struck an embankment. Phillips was treated and released from a Fairview hospital.

Another passenger in the car -- Mark Michael Widenmann-Flanders of Germany -- was also treated and released.

The patrol says all three men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
