Starting January 1st, the tax on cigarettes will go up about 55-cents a pack.

The money will go toward state health programs and prevention. Voters approved the measure November 2nd.

Some retailers are reporting customers stocking up before the start of the new year.

The state expects to gain more than $100-million in revenue a year from the increase.
