OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's long-time US Senator Don Nickles is packing up his belongings as he prepares to leave the office he's held for 24 years.

Nickles' fourth and final term officially ends early next month, when he will be succeeded by Muskogee Republican Tom Coburn.

The 56-year-old Ponca City native tells The Oklahoman's Washington Bureau that he's been kind of sentimental lately as he shuts down operations in DC and in Oklahoma.

He's been doing a farewell tour of sorts recently, speaking to civic organizations in the state and other groups.

Nickles says he's decided to form a Washington-based company called The Nickles Group that will do lobbying and consulting work.

He says he and his wife Linda will still make frequent trips to Oklahoma and that he plans to have affiliations with some Oklahoma companies after returning to the private sector.
