OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A Texas man is going to prison for an envelope-stuffing scam.

A federal judge in Oklahoma City sentenced 67-year-old Alan Louis Chavis of San Antonio to 19 years and four months.

Chavis was convicted in September of defrauding more than 100-thousand people nationwide out of about three (m) million dollars.

Prosecutors say Chavis ran classified ads offering at-home working opportunities. Those who responded were asked for 25-dollars, then asked for more money for training materials.

Prosecutors say the training materials turned out to be instructions on how to stuff envelopes with solicitations for others to send 25-dollars to apply for jobs as home workers.

Authorities say Chavis used centers in Midwest City and Edmond to process payments and send out promotional materials.
