ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox are looking to add another idiot to the bunch.
The team has offered 41-year-old lefty David Wells a one-year contract. That's according to Wells' agent, Gregg Clifton.
Clifton says a deal is not imminent. Today is the first day of baseball's winter meetings.
Wells also contacted the Yankees yesterday about returning to New York.
Wells was 12-and-8 with a 3-point-73 E-R-A last season, when he earned 1-point-25 (M) million dollars in base pay and another 4-point-75 (M) million dollars in incentives.
He might have made a (M) million more if he hadn't missed three starts in late May and early June after he tripped and fell onto a broken bottle of wine and a glass, severing a tendon.
He has also been involved in off-field incidents that make him a natural fit for Boston's frat house atmosphere.
Last year, Wells wrote a book titled: ``Perfect I'm Not! Boomer on Beer, Brawls, Backaches and Baseball.''
