OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A rear admiral will be the honorary grand marshall Saturday for the first Oklahoma River Parade.
U.S. Naval Reserve Rear Admiral Greg Slavonic was chosen by the Oklahoma River Holiday Parade to represent the country's armed forces. He is scheduled to return from Iraq the day of the parade.
Organizers say the parade and fireworks show caps a day of festivities celebrating the opening of the Oklahoma River south of downtown Oklahoma City.
Slavonic was senior public affairs officer for the multinational forces in Iraq, and in that capacity, he witnessed a recent appearance by Saddam Hussein in an Iraqi courtroom.
