In an effort to prevent car break-ins, Tulsa Police are stepping up patrols around shopping areas as we get closer to Christmas.

Officers say vandalism and car thefts increase this time of year. So they'll patrol near large parking areas.

They say visibility is an important part of crime prevention. Tulsa Police officer Ron Bartmier: "It's good to go ahead and drive your patrol car through these lots just so they know there is someone there and fortunately most of the malls have their own security as well, so we can double up on it."

Tulsa Police officers will step up patrols in a number of areas including 71st and US Highway 169.
