DENVER (AP) _ Third baseman Vinny Castilla declined a $2.1 million mutual option with Colorado for next season and filed for free agency Friday along with Rockies pitcher Shawn Estes.
Castilla, 37, led the NL with 131 RBIs and hit 35 homers in his first season with the Rockies since 1999. He has said he would take less than market value to finish his career in Denver, and the Rockies are expected to make an offer as early as next week.
Estes, a former All-Star, pitched well in his first season at Coors Field, setting a team record for left-handers by winning 15 games.
