Democratic US Senate Candidate Brad Carson got a big endorsement Tuesday from several of Oklahoma's largest Native American tribes.
News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says our latest "Oklahoma Poll" shows Democrat Brad Carson leading Republican Tom Coburn by seven points. Carson's campaign hopes that margin will grow after Tuesday’s endorsement in downtown Tulsa.
The elected leaders of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Muskogee-Creek Nations gathered at the Convention Center to announce their support for Carson. Together, they represent more than 400,000 Native Americans, about 10% of Oklahoma's population.
Of course, not all tribes are backing Carson. Fort Sill Apache Tribe Chairman Jeff Houser and Seminole Nation Chief Ken Chambers both endorsed Republican Tom Coburn Monday.
