OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A non-profit group will fly an East Central University player injured in a fatal hit-and-run incident to a hospital nearer his Dallas home.
Cornerback Dennis Scales suffered serious injuries when he was thrown from a pickup truck bed following a racially charged confrontation near Ada, Oklahoma, last month.
Scales suffered a broken neck and is paralyzed from the chest down. His teammate, Joseph Tusan, was killed in the September 19th collision. One man is charged with murder and assault in the incident.
Fort Worth-based Mercy Med Flights has agreed to fly Scales to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Company president Ken McAlear says all Mercy Med Flights are free for the patients. McAlear and another volunteer pilot will fly Scales to Texas.
