NEWARK, N.J. (AP) _ Former New Orleans Hornets guard JR Smith continues to recover in a New Jersey hospital after he was hurt in the crash of his sport utility vehicle.
Smith is now with the Denver Nuggets.
Authorities say Smith drove through a stop sign Saturday and was ejected from the SUV after it collided with a car in Millstone, New Jersey.
A passenger in the SUV is hospitalized with life-threatening head injuries.
Smith was New Orleans' top pick in the 2004 NBA draft and played with the Hornets during the team's first season in Oklahoma City where the Hornets played for two seasons after Hurricane Katrina.
He was traded with PJ Brown to the Chicago Bulls for center Tyson Chandler then later traded to Denver.
