TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Former Oklahoma State University basketball coach Eddie Sutton appeared to close the door a little tighter on a return to coaching.
Sutton spoke with reporters shortly before Monday's Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards ceremony in Tulsa.
Sutton joked that if he ever got the urge to coach again, his wife, Patsy, might leave him. But the 71-year-old also told The Associated Press he was disappointed he ended up two wins shy of 800 after a 36-year coaching career.
Sutton announced his retirement last year following a car accident that led to no-contest pleas to drunken driving and other charges. A Payne County judge recently ruled that Sutton had met the terms of the probation he received.
Sutton has been busy speaking to college groups and lobbying for funds to build an addiction center on the OSU campus.
He says the hardest thing for him these days is watching sons Scott and Sean coach their Oral Roberts and OSU squads from the bleachers.
