The Cherokee Nation will announce plans for a new major tenant at the Cherokee Casino Resort. Country superstar Toby Keith will open his fourth I love this Bar and Grill restaurant at the Catoosa hot spot. The restaurant will cover 10,000-square feet of the Cherokee Casino, with enough seating for 400 people. News On 6 anchor Craig Day reports fans are excited some of Keith's star power is coming to Green Country.
"I just love him in general, his music. He's country, country all the way. I like his attitude," said McCurtain County resident Amber Wilkinson.
And Wilkinson thinks she'll love his food too. The restaurant will mix American cuisine with Toby Keith memorabilia, a dance floor and plenty of live music.
"Oh I just love his singing. I just love him period. But, I would come to his restaurant and see what it is like and what it is all about," said Toby Keith fan Deborah Denton.
The restaurant is part of the Cherokee Resort's $125 million expansion plan. It includes a 20-story tower with 200 rooms, mostly high end suites and convention space.
Claremore resident William Vanderpool says the addition of Toby Keith as a major tenant will not only mean a good time for fans, it will be good for the area economy.
"I think it's going to help a whole lot around here. I really do,†said Vanderpool. “I think it will really make an improvement here in the area."
An official groundbreaking will be held later this month. The restaurant and the rest of the Cherokee Resort expansion should open in late 2008.
In addition to the Bricktown restaurant, Toby Keith also has another bar and grill at Harrah's in Las Vegas and in north Kansas City.
