WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Top-seeded Wichita State avoided elimination Saturday with an 11-4 victory over 3rd-seeded Oral Roberts in the NCAA Wichita Regional.
The Shockers (50-20) knocked out Oral Roberts starter Jerry Sullivan in the 2nd inning after taking a 2-0 lead in the 1st.
WSU didn't score again until the 6th, when it added 1 run. The Shockers blew the game open in the 7th with 6 runs on 6 hits to build the lead to 9-2.
Conor Gillaspie got the big inning started with a single just past the 2nd baseman to drive in 2 runs and give WSU a 5-2 lead. Doubles by Tyler Weber and Josh Workman also drove in runs.
WSU had been beaten by Oral Roberts (40-17) four straight times entering the regional, including twice this season.
