For many of us our pets are important members of our family. When one gets sick its care is very important. The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports a technician at a veterinary hospital in Owasso treats each ailing dog and cat with love, and a warm blanket.
"They all get ‘em to recover in," said veterinary technician Wanda Cline.
She calls them recovery blankets. At least one is in every exam room at the Strathe Veterinary Hospital, and Wanda Cline crocheted all of them. They’ve become standard equipment, a prescription for a faster recovery.
"When they're all wrapped up after surgery, and they're all warm they just recover better," Cline said.
She's been making the blankets for years, and each one takes about five or six hours to create.
"A lot of people have tried to buy them, but they are never for sale," said Cline.
Every loop and slip knot she's crafted with love, and she keeps doing them because she needs to.
“Cause there's always more babies coming in, so it doesn't stop," Cline said.
Spice, a seven-month-old Shih Tzu, came in for a procedure. Afterward he gets wrapped up like a little burrito in his new recovery blanket.
"You do 'em just like a baby," said Cline.
She wraps him up, watches, coaxes, and pats, bringing him out of the anesthesia as gently as she can. When Spice shows signs of life again she'll take him in and let him come out of his recovery blanket on his own.
Wanda Cline has tried to retire several times, but says she just can't. She says she never gets tired of working with little dogs and cats.
