ATLANTA (AP) -- According to a new report, Oklahoma is tied with Georgia for seventh place in the nation in the rate of women killed by men.

In 2004, men killed 36 women in Oklahoma, resulting in a homicide rate of two-point-zero-two per 100,000 people.

Alaska ranks first with nine homicides and a 2.83% homicide rate, followed by New Mexico and Wyoming, which were tied for second. Louisiana came in third followed by Nevada and then South Carolina.

The Violence Policy Center, a Washington-based gun control group, made the rankings -- which were released yesterday -- based on 2004 statistics submitted to the FBI.
