STILWELL, Okla. (AP) -- A former sheriff has been appointed to lead the Adair County Sheriff's Office after the resignation of three top law enforcement officials. Adair County commissioners Tuesday accepted the resignations of Sheriff Charles Hartshorne, Undersheriff Tim McCollum and jail administrator Karen McCollum in response to the revelation that Hartshorne took a new job in Iraq without informing county leadership.
Gerald Coleman was appointed as the interim sheriff. He served as the Adair County sheriff for eight years and was Hartshorne's predecessor.
