Two Tulsa women have created an impressive fundraising idea. They're combining lots of plaster, volunteer women to model and artists to offer their creative talents. Their goal is to increase breast cancer awareness, and raise money too. The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports the result is an organization and a fundraiser called Breast Impressions.
"Everyone wants to give a best impression, this way you give a breast impression as well," said Judi Grove with Breast Impressions.
Judi Grove and Nancy Coryell joined together to form Breast Impressions. A plaster impression is taken from volunteers and turned over to local artists to be decorated. The whole idea was born out of Judi’s own breast cancer scare; she wanted to make a cast of her breasts in case surgery was needed.
"This is a very intimate thing people can do, giving a representation of themselves," Grove said.
The idea's sort of snowballed since the first casting in February. They have 50 women's impressions done, and one man.
"This is a little strange isn't it," said Bruce Dill, Breast Impression participant.
Bruce Dill is having a plaster cast done too.
"It's just amazing, one out of eight women die of breast cancer each year, 400 men," Dill said.
This is a little more personal for him than that, his wife Debbie died of breast cancer a year ago, so this is to honor her and focus attention on the fact that men die of it too.
"Maybe it can help save someone's life,†said Dill.
