OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma House's top Democrat called on legislative leaders to convene budget hearings to restart stalled negotiations on a state spending plan. It has been almost two weeks since Governor Brad Henry vetoed a $6.9 billion budget plan approved by the state House and state Senate.
House Democratic Leader Danny Morgan of Prague says he wants to reopen the budget process with hearings where lawmakers can question state agency heads and taxpayers to determine spending priorities.
Morgan's idea is supported by Governor Brad Henry.
Henry vetoed the 2008 legislative spending bill on March 28th, saying it was conceived in a flawed process that lacked input from his office and others.
